About ASR District

The Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) District is one of the most tribal-dominated and geographically challenging regions of Andhra Pradesh.

  • 82% Tribal Population: Among the highest in the state.
  • 9.5 Lakh+ Population: Predominantly rural with scattered hamlets.
  • 42% Literacy Rate: Significant education and awareness gaps.
  • Challenging Terrain: Hilly and forest areas with limited connectivity.

Languages Spoken: Telugu, Odia, Koya, Kuvi, and other tribal dialects.

Why this program exists

In tribal areas of ASR District, healthcare is often delayed, not due to lack of need, but because of significant environmental and systemic barriers:

Villages are located far from medical facilities.

Transportation options are limited in hilly areas.

Early signs of illness are often not identified.

Maintaining consistent follow-up care is challenging.
